Underwriting life insurance applicants with diabetes and coronary disease as co-impairments is always a challenge. However, new information is emerging that may settle several previously unresolved issues such as: the impact of tight glucose control; the predictive value of cardiac screening tests; the mortality benefit of cardiac bypass and stenting. Armed with this data, an updated underwriting approach to the diabetic with coronary disease has developed.
