Today, we write more applications on persons aged 70 and over than ever before. As our population ages, so do the demands and expectations of our older aged applicants. When looking at whether or not a standard offer can become preferred, there are some important differences to consider between the younger and older ages. This talk covers the basics that should be considered when making a preferred decision, and then fine-tunes the process with tools that will aid substantially in deciding between standard and preferred. Such tools include recent medical developments and studies regarding laboratory findings, newer screening methods for cognitive and functional ability, and thoughts on handling multiple impairments.
