Update on Childhood Neurological Conditions, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Other Disorders
Marianne Cumming, MD, BSC, MSC, DBIM, AALU

Underwriting children includes consideration of growth and development factors. Impairments in children add to the complexity of risk classification in a group with low anticipated levels of both morbidity and mortality. Neurologic conditions are especially challenging as diagnoses may be elusive, evolving, or even overlap with other disorders. An underwriting approach to common childhood neurologic conditions will be discussed including autistic spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and seizure disorders. Traumatic brain injury and ischemic strokes in children will also be covered.
