Advances in cardiac management and surgery have led to improved
survival with many children with significant heart disease surviving into
adulthood and applying for insurance products. Using an underwriting
case-based approach, risk classification for common congenital heart
defects will be discussed, including tetralogy of fallot, transposition
of the great vessels, coarctation of the aorta, and other conditions.
Available long-term literature will be reviewed and the appropriate
selection of cardiac studies for risk classification will be presented.
